In El Chile, Nicaragua, Juan and his wife Rosa live with their two sons. Juan works as a farmer – doing all he can to meet his family’s needs with his limited income.
Just a few years ago, their family lived in a small wooden house with a dirt floor. During the rainy season, water would seep in and soak their belongings. Juan dreamed of having a safe, stable home where they could build a better life.

He heard that Rainbow Network would be building homes for 25 families in his community, and he applied to be a participant, hoping his family would be chosen. When he found out they were accepted, he was filled with joy!
The houses were built and the community held a housing dedication where his family received the keys to their new home. They thanked God for this blessing, and they excitedly stepped into this next chapter of life.
Juan and his family have lived in their new house for over a year, and their life has completely changed-
- They now have access to clean water right outside their home. They no longer have to walk long distances to retrieve dirty water, and they no longer battle waterborne illnesses.
- Their house protects them from the summer heat and winter storms. They no longer have to deal with a dirt floor turning to mud during the rainy season.
- They started a garden, where they grow nutritious foods, which improve their diet and health.
- Juan has made additions to the house, and he plans to pass it down to his sons, so their future families can also enjoy this blessing.
In his new home, Juan has a newfound confidence and hope for the future. His family feels safe and at peace, and they love to share this blessing with others.
Juan is one of many fathers who are taking hold of new opportunities for their family to grow and thrive. The journey out of extreme poverty comes with many obstacles, but fathers in rural Nicaragua are dedicated to creating a better future for their children.
This Father’s Day, you can partner with people like Juan with a gift to Rainbow Network.
