Yubelka is a mother of three. She raises chickens at home, and she dreams of creating a better life for her children. Her oldest son is in high school through Rainbow Network’s scholarship program, with hopes of becoming a scientist.
They live in Las Delicias, Nicaragua – a community of about 900 people. Most people in the community work in the nearby coffee fields, but this seasonal job only provides a few months of income for families.
When Yubelka heard about a Piñata and Crafts course through Rainbow Network and the local trade school, she was eager to participate. She knew that learning a new skill could open doors for other opportunities in the future, like starting her own business.
She had an incredible experience as a course participant. She was given the opportunity to express her creativity, take risks and try new things. She and 19 other women from Las Delicias completed the course and celebrated with a graduation ceremony!
We spoke with her recently and asked what she will do with her new skills. She paused for a moment, and a big smile spread across her face as she said, “Start a business.”
We’re excited to help her take that next step! With materials and coaching from our team, her small business will be able to grow into a reliable source of income – bringing greater stability to her family through the work of her own hands.
You can support people like Yubelka as they create something of their own.
