Dulce María lives in the San Andres community with her husband, Oscar. The couple have three children: Oscar (19), Wendy (16), and Larry (10).
Before Rainbow Network came to her community, Dulce and her family lived in a one-room shack with metal sheets as walls and a thin roof.
After learning of the housing project that was to be built in San Ramon, Dulce and her family applied for a home there. They were accepted in March 2012.
The family decided that they wanted to keep moving forward, and they desired a stable income that would offer security and comfort to their family after many, many years of poverty and hardship.
The Salvalas purchased a refrigerator and opened a small store to operate from their home.
In addition to their convenience store, the family purchased chickens which quickly multiplied. They now operate a chicken farm for fresh eggs and poultry in addition to their store.
