Sewing A Brighter Future: Heydy’s Story

Sewing a Brighter Future

When I met Heydy, she was a shy, young high school student. In addition to her classes, she was learning how to sew with about a dozen of her fellow community members. The group had just started, but they were quickly learning how to make all kinds of items- shirts, skirts, dresses, pillowcases, curtains, etc. They were so excited to have this new skill that would allow them to earn an income for their families. Even more than that, they were overjoyed to have this community of women to laugh and live life with. The group was united in their efforts, and they were a source of encouragement for one another.

Take a moment to hear from Heydy when she had just started with the sewing group.

When I told Heydy that I knew her sponsor, she immediately grinned from ear to ear. She was so eager to learn about them and even record a video greeting for me to share with them.

Heydy GraduationHeydy excelled in her high school studies, repeatedly earning academic excellence and graduating with honors. She continued perfecting her sewing skills, and she discovered that she has a special talent for making pillows. Thanks to the income from her sewing business, she is now putting herself through college and making plans for the future!

All of this started because someone like you committed to walk alongside her as she built her educational foundation. A scholarship through Rainbow Network opens many doors for the youth in our communities and changes their trajectory in life forever. You can provide students with hope for the future and opportunities for themselves, their families, and their communities to succeed.

If you have not done so yet, today is the day to step up and partner with a student. Find out more about student sponsorship Here.
